Green Drawstring Bag for College Campuses

Colleges and universities are always looking for ways to be green. This is great for the future of our planet because the college students being trained will know how to make eco friendly decisions. These will just be simple, every day life choices, but small differences make a big difference in the long run. College students also want their accessories to be cool looking. Cotton drawstring backpacks are a great way to be trendy, convenient, and eco friendly.

Drawstring backpacks are very popular for college campuses because these bags are versatile. Students will use these bags for their gym clothes. The drawstring closure makes it easy for students to throw items in while in a rush. The packs are also used for book bags, as well shoe bags. A lot of golfers use drawstring bags for their golf shoes. These bags have been recently popular in campus stores.

Another way this bag can be used is to raise money. Sororities and Fraternities can use drawstring bags as fundraisers for their organization, and get a great looking bag with their logo on it too. The sororities and fraternities can sell 4-8 different ad placement spots on the bags. For example, if a sorority or fraternity sold 8 ads on the bag, they could charge about $350 per ad, when buying 1000 bags. Then, the bags would be profiting the organization money and working as an advertisement for the businesses.

Also, the sorority or fraternity could place just 4 ads on one side, and have their greek letters on the other side. There are tons of different ways that this bag could work as fundraisers for college sororities and fraternities. These bags are popular for college campuses because students are looking for cool looking, convenient bags. And saving the environment is becoming more of an issue that will help the colleges' future as well.

Biodegradable Products: What are they?

videoA lot of products these days are claiming to be recyclable, biodegradable, made from recycled materials, etc. How do you know which products are best for the environment? What do these terms even mean? Today, we will clarify what it means for a product or material to be biodegradable. Are the biodegradable shopping bags really doing the trick?

What does it mean for a material to be biodegradable? An item that is biodegradable is a product or material made from an eco friendly material that decomposes in landfills or other environments such as roadsides as people litter.

Now, what actually makes materials biodegradable? The first way items can be biodegradable depends on their source. Natural materials are biodegradable because they come directly from plants or other natural fibers. Plants produce a large majority of the natural fibers. These kinds of materials are made from cotton, which is the largest plant fiber. Jute is the second largest plant fiber in manufacturing material. Animals also produce natural fibers. Materials like wool from sheep and alpaca fibers will decompose naturally because they are not fabricated. The fibers are woven into a fabric, but it is the fiber that is biodegradable.

Some plastics are also biodegradable. These materials are manufactured with a chemical base that causes a more rapid breakdown. Traditional plastics will break down in landfills, but it will take years upon years to see any results. However, it will take only a few months to a few years for most biodegradable plastics to decompose fully.

There are many ways to degrade materials. For example, in the landfills, microorganisms are actually "eating" the materials. They are being broken down by enzymes, and the rate of this process depends the heat present and the amount of oxygen available.

The material itself is the biggest part in deciding how long it takes for the biodegradable process to complete itself. For an example, Wikipedia provides a list of biodegradable products. Banana peels take only 2-10 days where orange peels take about 1 month. Paper can take 2-5 months, and plastic bags take 10-20 years. The winner of the longest biodegration process is diapers and aluminum cans: 200-500 years. After looking at a lot of these long degration processes, it is a relief to see that cotton only takes 1-5 months and wool takes about 1-5 years. The biodegradable plastic bags take about 2-3 months to decompose.

As you can see, when products that are used in bulk quantity add up, there is potential to have a lot of full landfills, which is bad for the environment. Making smart decisions about product materials will help out the environment, and in a lot of cases you wallet, too. A lot of biodegradable materials are about the same and sometimes less money than the fabricated alternatives.

Fundraising is Going Green

These days everything and everybody seems to be all about "Going Green." Why not fundraising? This article will show you how going green is a great fundraiser that will bring in some money and help out the environment too!

Whatever your organization--school, library, non-profit, hospital--this fundraising idea will work for you. It involves selling advertising placements on a reusable shopping bag. Here's the basic idea behind this fundraising idea:

It's really a quite simple concept, which can be implemented in any organization. Sell ad placements on an eco friendly shopping bag. The best types of bags for this will be any kind of reusable bag. Check to make sure it is an eco friendly material like cotton canvas. This fundraiser is especially suited for schools because the students do all of the ad sales. It's easy to split up the imprinting area on the bags into multiple ad spaces, and divide the cost of the bag production by the number of advertising spaces, and increase the cost of the placement according to the amount of money the organization would like to profit.

Businesses love to be seen as being involved in the community. So, this kind of fundraising is not very difficult to sell. There are many ways to sell the advertising. All the ad sizes could be equal in size, or there could be a premium ad on each side of the bag that would bring in more money. I think it will be more clear in the example to follow.

For the examples purpose, let's say there is a tote bag that cost 1.65, and the second side imprinting costs $0.42, which is a total of $2.07. Let's also say that the organization will purchase 1,000 bags for distribution. The total bag costs is about $2,070. You also have to remember shipping and setup charges. For sake of this example, assume that all ad sizes are the same, and there are 8 ads per side; totaling 16 ads. The cost per ad placement to cover the bag price would be $129, but this will not profit the organization. If the ads cost $200, that would profit the organization $1,136. $200 isn't very much for an ad placement, so, the ads could be $250 or more. If the ads cost $250, the organization would profit $1936. As you can see, this could be a very profitable fundraiser for an organization.

Distribution is another way the organization could help raise even more money. The bags could be sold an events for a small profit. Even if the bags are resold for $1, the organization would be making an additional $1000. Some organizations also feel that the advertisers should be getting the bags to hand out to their customers. These bags could be given away by the advertisers' storefronts. Either way, advertisers will be getting 1000 "walking billboards" with their ads being shown to countless numbers of people.

Oxo-Biodegradable Plastic Bag

So many plastic bags are being wasted today. Millions of traditional plastic grocery bags are being thrown away every day. These plastic bags will never decompose in the landfills. There has to be some kind of alternative solution to the problem our world is facing. Can you even imagine our world in just a few years if something is not done soon?

I suggest that companies and governments start using oxo-biodegradable bags. These bags are great for the environment because the last up to 5 years indoors. But once they are exposed to UV rays or intense heat for a long period of time, they start to degrade into natural waste. This plastic alternative is a great way to save the environment from being suffocated by plastic bags in the future.

What makes these bags biodegradable? During the manufacturing process, an oxo-boiodegradable additive is used. This additive is blended into the plastic during the extrusion process, so, it is less harmful for the environment.

Not only are these new bags biodegradable, but they are also recyclable. As long as the plastic has not started to degrade significantly, the plastic bags can be recycled by most recycling centers in the United States.

In the landfills, microorganisms will aid in the process of degradation as long as there is enough oxygen. UV light rays will also keep the process going. Heat, again, will help the bags in the biodegration process.

The plastic also feels just like regular plastic. People can not notice any difference between regular plastic and the biodegradable plastic bags. As mentioned before, the plastic bags will last indoors for about 5 years, but when placed in a landfill, the bags will be gone in about 2 years under normal circumstances.

One great feature about these bags is the fact that they are also made in the USA. It's a great thing to help the manufacturers and fellow workers when buying domestic products. These bags are biodegradable, reusable, plastic, and made in the USA.

Also, we will be giving away a free bag through the month of May. Starting Earth Day (Apr 22), provide us with your shipping address, and we will ship a biodegradable plastic bag to you!

Save the Environment and the USA Economy

These days, there are a lot of economic hard times. People are constantly looking to save money, and who can blame those people? Everybody wants to save a dollar, right? At the same time, buyers should be looking out for their fellow American citizen. We want to keep the American economy rolling.

I would like to persuade buyers to not only purchase products that are eco friendly and will be saving the environment, but to also shop for products that will save the US economy. Purchase items that are made in the USA, and save the American economy.

It is really hard for the American manufacturers to compete with all of the products that are placed in the market today. Countries are exporting mass quantities of products that are produced at cheaper costs, so they are usually less expensive to the end consumer. We've seen a lot of countries importing a lot of large volumes of products, which is making it less expensive, but it is also hurting American jobs and the American economy. Jobs are being lost because American consumer are purchasing products that are made outside of the USA.

Also, not to mention (my biased opinion), typically, products that are made in the USA are a better quality than those products that are imported. Typically, US manufacturers have more strict regulations, which produces a better quality product, in the end.

If your company is purchasing products, please consider the products that could be purchased from domestic manufacturers. Purchasing products from manufactures located in the USA will boost the morale of the nation, which will in turn keep the American economy rolling.

Recently, our company has seen a spike in interest for Made in the USA products, which is great for the American manufacturing companies. It is also great for the environment because the products are eco friendly. If we are seeking to save the environment, why not save the economy at the same time?

Made in the USA and Eco Friendly bags

Lately, we've posting our articles and other video blogs. But today, there just isn't the time to write a full article--Maybe tomorrow. A lot of people are wanting to see this economy start rolling again! We have to realize, however that will be a gradual process. Many people are looking to save a dollar, and who can blame them? But we also need to look out for our fellow American citizen.

Start looking for items that are made in the USA. It's very hard for the companies in the US to compete with other companies are exporting large volumes of bags. We have seen a recent spike in interest in the Made in the USA tote bags, which is great for our national morale.

Here's a few of the bags that are made in the USA and are also eco friendly.

Save More Money by Going Green

Watching the news can scare anyone these days. Many people do not know about their future. Naturally, people are looking for ways to save money and cut back on spending. Going green can actually save you a few bucks and help out the environment, too! So, how can you save money in these touch economic times?

Reuse things
Using anything more than once is better than only using it once. This kind of seems like common sense, but a lot of people miss this. For example, the plastic bags you get from the store are only used once. Occasionally, you may use them for other purposes. But most of the time, plastic bags are disposed of. However, some stores are now making the customer pay for the plastic bags. Money can be saved when the customers use a reusable shopping bag. People often get a dozen or more disposable plastic bags when they visit the grocery store. This will definitely save money by reusing your shopping bags. The same bags can be used for school books or library books. The material is very tough and flexible, so they can withstand a lot of weight.

Advertising
Reusable bags also save money for companies. Companies use these bags as a method of advertising their brand. People use these bags, as previously mentioned, in numerous locations. So, essentially, these bags are mobile billboards for companies and organizations. Logos and slogans can be printed on the sides of the bags, and countless numbers of people will see the advertisements for the company.

Take one-Leave one
Another great way reusable bags are being used today is through a company project called "take one, leave one." Larger companies use this project to cut down on waste from lunch bags and other packaging materials. The company provides bags for employees to use while on their lunch break. For example, an employee would "take one" bag when leaving for lunch. That employee would then purchase lunch at the local deli, take it to the park in the reusable bag, and finally return the bag to the office after the lunch break is finished.

There's a lot of ways to save money is these economic tough times. These ideas are just a few of the ways people can not only save money, but do it while going green. Save a buck, save the earth while you're at it. video

Polypropylene: the Non-Woven Fabric

Polypropylene is a great eco friendly fabric that is being used today to replace other disposable plastic materials. For example, polypropylene has taken a great share of the disposable plastic bags used in grocery stores. There is still much work to be done to minimize the disposable plastic bags, but the polypropylene bags are working great.

What exactly is polypropylene? It is a plastic that is manufactured through a high heat source. It's molecular formula is (C3 H6)x. There are a few different names such as Polypropene, Polipropene 25, Propylene polymers, and more.

Properties
It is rough and resistant to other chemicals. Polypropylene is also tough, but also flexible. This makes the material to be used easily for chemical and plastic engineering experiments because it is so tough and flexible.

It is also economical because it can be reused. The fabric that is made is tough and durable so that it can be reused in different forms after being manufactured. Polypropylene fabric can be translucent, but because it does not fade very easily, most people use polypropylene as a colored fabric. So, the fabric can be dyed and will not fade easily.

Manufacturing
Polypropylene's melting point is approximately 320 degrees Fahrenheit. Once the chemicals have been bonded, they are melted and pressed through tight rollers that will make a thin fabric. This process is called extrusion and molding. As opposed to cotton or other natural fibers, which are woven, polypropylene is not woven. Many people in the fabric industry refer to these types of materials as "non-wovens." Cotton's fibers are typically spun into threads and woven together, but polypropylene is pressed into a fabric.

There are other finishes that can be applied to the finished fabric. Different types of finishes will produce different results. Some finishes are applied that will help the fabric accept ink better, which is better for imprinting. Some finishes will help repel other chemicals and solutions.

Uses
The polypropylene is used in a number of different fabric styles. These non-woven fabrics can be used to produce non-woven bags. Shirts are also manufactured using the non-woven material, such as Under Armor. The polypropylene properties keep sweat off of the body. It can also be used in ropes and other packaging materials. Surgeons are even using the fabric in hernia operations. After fixing the hernia, the doctor places the fabric over the area to prevent future blow-outs.

Most importantly, the non-woven fabric can be recycled, which is great for the environment. The resin identification code is number 5, and most recycling centers will accept these bags to be recycled.

Reuse This!

What comes into your mind when you think of an eco friendly shopping bag? I think that for most American consumers, when hearing this phrase, they think about the traditional reusable shopping bag. This is for a very good reason. It is a very eco friendly bag. By using the reusable shopping bags, people are saving the earth's resources. The disposable plastic bags are only good for one use--maybe two uses at most, and then they are thrown away.

Plastic is made from oil and other bio products, which cannot break down easily in the dump. So, when consumers use the reusable shopping bags, they are actually saving the earth's resources by not using the regular plastic bags. It's replacing the plastic bags as well as the paper bags.

The reusable shopping bags are widely available now in almost every grocery, convenient, and supermarket store. They are also available for a minimal cost. The use of the reusable shopping bag is most important because it is minimizing the use of the disposable plastic bags. The plastic bags consume so much oil and other natural resources. The reusable shopping bags are really saving the manufacturing of a lot of natural resources as well as saving the earth a lot of natural resources.

There's a lot of discussion right now about the government regulation of plastic bags, which is great for the environment. Without getting into politics, this step will increase the use of reusable shopping bags. A lot of regulations are occurring currently, among state and local governments. The regulations either prohibit the use of plastic bags completely or minimize the use by adding a sur-charge to any plastic bag that is used. This will discourage consumers from using too many plastic bags, and will cause the consumer to purchase a reusable bag one time. Purchasing one reusable shopping bag will save the consumer money in the long-run also.

Another great way that reusable shopping bags are entering the market is through fashion. Not only are these bags becoming a trendier fashion accessory, but the clothing departments are also promoting them to their customers to use as shopping bags when they return the next time. This also gives the department store advertising when the customer takes the bag to different stores because the logo will be shown on the outside of the bag.

There are a lot of great things happening in the eco friendly world. It is exciting to be able to watch the buzz of saving the environment. Don't be afraid to jump in and do your part!

Jute Tote Bag

video
We just love posting videos about eco friendly shopping bags!

Jute Wants a Share of the Fame and Fortune

Jute is another great material for eco conscious consumers. It is also extremely under-appreciated. Cotton takes most of the fame and fortune for the natural fiber materials. However, most people have never even heard of jute. Why is jute such an eco friendly material?

Jute is a fabric that we call "burlap" in North America. Burlap bags are actually made from Jute. They are typically long strands of fibers that are naturally woven together. Jute is a natural plant fiber. It is also one of the cheapest natural plant fibers available on the market, currently. The only natural fiber that is produced more than jute is cotton.

Another fiber that is very similar to jute is hemp. Most people have seen hemp jewelry, which is very popular. Jute is grown in a very warm and moist climate. So, it is not surprising that a country like India is the number one exporter for jute. The monsoon seasons that occur there. People produce jute in countries like India after harvesting the plant. They will take the fibers from the stalk of the plant and after ripping the fibers from the stalk, they will produce the end result: the fabric.

This fabric is then used to produce a number of textile items. Manufacturers now are using jute to produce stylish tote bags that are eco friendly. They are very durable and becoming quite popular. In Europe, people refer to them as "Gunny Sacks." In America, people refer to them, simply as jute tote bags. They look like a burlap sack, but they can be imprinted with lettering or images. Some manufactures also add other materials such as a cotton trim to add style and appeal.

Jute material is eco friendly because it is a natural fiber, it is reusable and durable, and it is biodegradable. These are the marks for a great eco friendly material.

The Eco Friendly Cotton Material

There's a lot of "eco friendly" hype out there. A lot of people are claiming to be eco friendly for a number of different reasons. How are we supposed to know who really is eco friendly? What makes a material eco friendly? In my opinion, I would have to say an eco friendly material is one that is not affecting the environment. This means it does not affect the wild life, and it does not affect us, humans, as well.

When I mention the word "materials," I am referring to the fabrics that are used to manufacture all sorts of consumer products such as clothing and accessories, etc.

The differences between materials in regards to them being eco friendly depends on how the fabrics are made. One factor that really affects how they are made is where the fabric is manufactured in the world. Fabrics that are made in the USA are typically more eco friendly because of the strict regulations and guidelines that the government has imposed on manufacturers. These guidelines include regulations such as the methods and chemicals used during the dying process when the cotton is turned into different colors, as well as the imprinting of the material, which would include chemicals from the inks. Also, there are always chemicals used for clean-up which can be hazardous for the environment. Other countries may have very little or no regulations as to the processes and chemicals used in fabric manufacturing.

Now, to the material. The material is a very large part in consideration of how eco friendly a fabric actually is. In my opinion, cotton fabric is the most eco friendly material out there. Just a few reasons why I believe cotton to be the most eco friendly material:

Natural Fiber
Cotton is a naturally growing fiber. There is no need to mix chemicals to make a plastic. Cotton is already readily available in our environment. So, why not use it as a natural resource? We are actually using a natural resource that can be grown and harvested to manufacture fabrics

Reusable
After the fabric is manufactured and sewn into the final product, it can be reused over and over again because it is a durable material. For example, cotton in your clothing is a very comfortable cloth, and you probably will wear a cotton shirt hundreds of times before it wears out. Another example is cotton bags. Bags can be reused over multiple times before ever showing a sign of wear. Plastic bags however have a very limited life-span, and usually once they have been used once, they are thrown away.

Biodegradable
Once someone is finished using this material (typically years after it has been manufactured), the fabric will break down easily to it's original state of waste in the ground.

Cotton is a natural fiber, a reusable fiber, and it is also a biodegradable material. So, in my opinion, cotton is the the most eco friendly fabric available on the market right now. Also, to make the cotton even more eco friendly, it is made in the USA.
